Michelle Teplitz is thrilled to return to B’nai Jacob as the new Hazzan. A daughter of CBJ, Michelle had her Bat Mitzvah and was married on the bimah that she will now chant from.
Teplitz knew at an early age that she wanted to be a cantor. She was an original member of the B’nai Jacob High Holiday Quartet and Choir and began davening Shabbat services when she was just 14. She performed in several BJ Players productions, most notably starring as the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
After years of singing in choirs and performing in shows, Teplitz took steps to pursue her dream. She attended Gratz College in Philadelphia; graduating with a Masters in Jewish Music and Cantorial Studies. As a cantor, Michelle has been heard at Congregations across the North East, performing with some of the leading cantors in Conservative Judaism.
Born and raised in Woodbridge CT, Teplitz attended Beecher Elementary School and Amity Regional High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. Currently, she is the music teacher at Springdale and Stillmeadow Elementary Schools in Stamford, CT.
“This opportunity is a dream come true!" says Teplitz, about her new role as Cantor. Together with her husband Ari, she looks forward to sharing in the many simchahs that await the B’nai Jacob family.
