Rhoda Gorenberg :50 Years at B'nai Jacob's Library

On Saturday May 19, Congregation B'nai Jacob in Woodbridge will honor Rhoda Gorenberg, who has served as the synagogue's librarian for 50 years.  Gorenberg became the librarian when the congregation moved into its present location at 75 Rimmon Road in 1962.  Essentially, she is the archivist and librarian for one of the oldest Shuls in the area.  More than her being an institution--she is the "face" of the synagogues' memory.

In recognition of her landmark, Gorenberg will present an educational talk. She will speak about "50 years of the Library" at about 12:45 PM, immediately following the congregation Shabbat luncheon.

Formerly the librarian of Ezra Academy, she is a Trustee of the Jewish Historical Society of Greater New Haven. Her knowledge of local Jewish history is unparalleled. Gorenberg has helped established and budding scholars in the immediate community (Yale, SCSU, etc.), the New Haven Community and beyond.  She has instilled the joy of reading in young and old alike.

Rabbi Joel Levenson says, "The B'nai Jacob Library serves as a resource not only for members of our congregation, but for the greater New Haven Jewish community as well.  Rhoda maintains a librarian of unparalleled quality, and she is ready and willing to help find the right resource or book."
