Girls Cross Country Sprints Past East Haven

Lady Spartans add a 15-50 victory to their record.

The Amity girls cross country team opened the dual meet portion of its schedule last Tuesday with a 15-50 Southern Connecticut Conference shutout victory over East Haven. The race was run on the Spartans’ 3.1 mile Fitzgerald Trail course in Woodbridge.

Katie Beland (1st out of 37 runners) had the top time of 21 minutes 1 second. Amity’s other top runners were: Lee Ann Beedle (2nd—21:17), Minnie Chen (3rd—21:27), Sara Beland (4th—21:36), and Rebecca Race (5th—21:48).

“We ran in a nice pack. Our game plan was for each girl to stay as close as possible to the runner ahead of her. That was to serve as practice for what we want to do in future races,” Coach Sean Mahon said. “I was pleased with how things worked out. This race was a definite plus for us. I think my girls showed signs that they are developing into a pretty decent team.”
