Klarides Applauds $500,000 State Grant for Beecher Road School

State Representative Themis Klarides (R-114) today announced that Woodbridge will be awarded a $500,000 grant under the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) to be utilized for renovating Beecher Road School.

The grant will fund:

  • replacement of damaged and deteriorated sidewalks
  • improvements required by the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • paving of both parking lots in the north and south areas of the school, as well as the circular driveway at the south entrance
  • upgrades to certain outdoor campus lighting
“These funds will help enhance the well-being of our staffers and children by improving pedestrian safety and addressing other much needed campus improvements,” Rep. Klarides said. “In order to succeed, our students need safe and updated facilities, and I’m thrilled these tax dollars are returning to Woodbridge for such a worthy project. Congratulations to Beecher Road School as they continue to foster a healthy and prosperous learning community for our youngest scholars.”

Rep. Klarides lobbied the Governor’s Office of Policy and Management for months, including multiple written requests, in order to push for the grant’s approval.

Beecher Road School, the town’s only public elementary school, is home to approximately 750 students and 90 educators, administrators and staffers.

STEAP grants are designed to fund economic development, community conservation and quality of life projects for localities that are ineligible to receive Urban Action bonds. The grants are appropriated on a rolling basis to municipal applicants by the Bond Commission’s Office of Policy and Management.
