Pennies for Patients Raises a Pile of Donations and Earns a Visit from Petunia Buttercup

And it was more than just a peck on the pink cheek!

Bethany Community School children raised well over their goal of $2,000 for cancer research, and as a reward, Principal Rob Spino agreed to kiss a pig. Not just any pig, of course - Petunia Buttercup, from Locket's Meadow, arrived in her brand new pink floral dress, ready to pucker up for a cause.
Over the past three weeks the school had participated in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s School & Youth Program called Pennies for Patients, a service learning program in which kids collect spare change to help those afflicted with blood cancers.  The money raised will support patient services to improve the quality of life of those living with these cancers and research to find a cure.
Students can donate pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, or dollar bills and placed them in their grade level bin in the cafeteria.  BCS collected $2693.73 for this organization.

A second pig, tiny Bruno the teacup pig, had also arrived to lock lips with the principal and teachers, however, the extreme enthusiasm of the crowd proved to be a little much for him. Petunia, or Tuney B as she is often called by fans, has made many public appearances, including doing some fundraising at the recent Relay for Life in Orange, and happily picked up the slack, kissing Mr. Spino three times along with a half dozen teachers who were lucky enough to have their names pulled from a jar.

Thank you to everyone who participated and thank you Mr. Spino for agreeing to kiss a pig if the school raised over 2000 dollars!

Editor's note: Rumors of Tuney's engagement to Mr. Spino have been greatly exaggerated. While she thought he was a very nice and handsome gentleman, Petunia Buttercup says her true love is Justin Bieber, and she will wait for him as long as it takes.
