Police Arrest Man Who Allegedly Shot Himself in Hand

The Woodbridge resident reportedly told police he was shot when someone tried to rob him.

It turns out that a 30-year-old Woodbridge resident who told police he was shot in the hand when someone tried to rob him, actually shot himself, according to police.

As a result, the man, Charles Grzyacz of Acorn Hill Road, was arrested by warrant on July 29 on charges of carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and falsely reporting an incident.

Woodbridge Police say his arrest stems from an incident on June 21, when police responded to Grzyacz' residence on a report of a person who had been shot in the hand.

Grzyacz was transported to the hospital for treatment and, upon being interviewed at the hospital, he gave several different explanations as to how the injury occurred, including claiming to have been robbed while on Dillon Road, according to police.

"Further investigation determined that the gunshot was self-inflicted while Grzywacz was in his vehicle at Sperry Park," police say.
