Residents Invited to Learn About Country Club Proposals
Two proposals will be presented to the public on July 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Center Gym
A Public Informational Meeting about two proposals for the Town-owned Country Club of Woodbridge property has been scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, July 27th at the Center Gym at 6:30 p.m.
“I encourage all residents to attend this meeting,” said First Selectman Ellen Scalettar. “It is an important opportunity for residents to learn about the finances and future possibilities for the property.”
The Town purchased the Country Club in 2009 for $7 million after the private entity that ran the club declared bankruptcy. Since then the Town has paid a third party to run the golf course. The pool and tennis courts are managed and operated by the Town.

At the July 13 monthly Board of Selectmen meeting, the Selectmen heard from three groups presenting proposals. The Selectmen determined that two of them are worthy of public consideration and they will be presented on July 27th.
One proposal is from Redan Reserve, LLC. Redan proposes to redesign the Country Club’s golf course to be a “top 100” public golf course in conjunction with their redesign of the Yale golf course. (The two course are very close to each other, but separated by the Wilbur Cross Parkway.) At the Yale course Redan Reserve would build a hotel. They have offered to pay $3.5 million for the entire property, contingent upon all parts of the plan (Yale course, hotel, etc.) going forward.

The second proposal is from Toll Brothers. Toll is looking at purchasing ~42 acres for $5 million. Toll would build 80 active adult housing units on the land. The Town would retain 113 acres, which would be available for myriad uses, including for example, walking and bike trails, the pool and other recreational activities.
Documents relating to the future of the Country Club of Woodbridge, including the two proposals described in this article as well as the third proposal heard by the Selectmen, can be viewed on the Town’s website at woodbridgect.org/CCWFuture.
In order for the Town to move forward with any proposal, the Board of Selectman must first vote to send a proposal to the public. Woodbridge voters would then decide whether or not to sell the property.
