Send a Card to Cheer an Assisted Living Resident

Nancy Kelly of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Woodbridge shared this request from Fr. John Paul of St. Mary's/St. Joseph's Church.

A Message from Fr. John Paul of St. Mary's/St. Joseph's in New Haven

Want to have something to fill some time that will also be a great act of charity? I have been in touch with a staff member at Mary Wade Home here in New Haven (she is the sister of one of our St. Mary parishioners) and she said they are pretty desperate for people to send in cards, notes, letters, etc. to the residents.

With no visitors allowed at all (not even immediate family) residents are getting lonely.

The only request that they make is that, since many of the residents are already quite anxious and worried about the coronavirus pandemic, that the notes/letters/cards not focus on that topic, but rather be "uplifting" in theme.

It was mentioned that children drawing or coloring pictures might be especially heartwarming. They suggested signing it if you are comfortable (at least a first name); or for children, a first name and age might be nice.

Thank you to Our Lady of the Assumption parishioner Nancy Kelly for sharing the message from Fr. John Paul. Here is what she added to the above:

What a lovely thing to do while we wonder what to do!

I think all the homes could probably use some cheering. So in addition to the Mary Wade Home, here are the addresses of the three assisted living facilities in Woodbridge, plus Lord Chamberlain where I know at least one parishioner's relative resides.
