Smoking and stress

Do you smoke to relieve stress?

Many smokers report that they smoke cigarettes to relieve stress. However, smoking doesn’t really get rid of the things that stress you out.

For example, if you are stressed about finances, smoking may help you forget about it, for a moment, but it actually leads to bigger problems because of the cost associated with smoking. In addition, smoking may help you feel a sense of relief, but this feeling is temporary and the stress often returns after you are done smoking.

Quitting smoking can help you identify and work on the real causes of your stress. Also, studies have shown that people report lower stress after quitting.
