Woodbridge Resident Receives Prestigious Connecticut Girl Scouts Gold Award

A Woodbridge resident recently received the Scouts' top honor— the Gold Award— for creating projects and programs that help the community.

Julia Tomei, a Woodbridge resident and member of the Connecticut Girl Scouts, recently took home gold for creating a community-focused project that earned them a prestigious award. A total of 86 Girl Scouts from around the state received the recognition.

"The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest and most prestigious award that Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors can earn. Each Gold Award Project addresses a community issue and improves lives. The Gold Award process builds girls’ personal leadership skills. A Gold Award Project inspires others to take action within their communities," according to the Girl Scouts website.

Here is some information concerning the Woodbridge award winner, Julia Tomei, via the Connecticut Girl Scouts:

Julia noticed that a lot of pet owners did not know the proper procedures or have the right medical supplies for when their pet is injured, so she created first-aid kits for pets. Julia created an informational sheet on how to create first-aid kits for your pet, made a pamphlet filled with tips on pet safety, and created a YouTube video. Julia distributed the first-aid kits to her local veterinary hospital to be shared with pet owners throughout her community. Julia will continue to make more first-aid kits for the veterinary hospital for them to distribute to their patients’ families. Her YouTube video will also remain on their website. In the fall, Julia will attend Fordham University to study physics and chemistry.
