Back At Shelter: Cruelly Abused Pup Evander Is Again Without A Home

The possible Wire Torkie was horrifically abused and is fearful, not surprisingly. But his adoption didn't work out, and he's back at DCAS.

BRANFORD, CT — When first we met Evander in early May, the workers at the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter had shared the horrific details of the abuse the puppy suffered, including having digits from his paw "intentionally sliced off."

"Evander came to us very fearful, as you can imagine, he still is at times. He has been in a foster home with one of our Animal Control Officers, but he will need to come back to the shelter soon and everyone would rather he went straight into a home," DCAS wrote on Facebook. "We realize this is a tall order, but this pup never asked to be traumatized or abused."

Then, on May 23, Patch was happy to share that Evander had been adopted.

Sadly, he's now back at the shelter.

"Unfortunately, Evander's adoption did not work out. As we have said he will need quite a bit of time and patience to trust. We are hoping a foster-based rescue who work with a dog trainer may be interested in taking Evander into their rescue. He is pretty stressed being back at the shelter . He needs placement as an only pet without children."

"Evander is fearful of quick movements of hands and feet" and after being in an abusive situation, he'll "need quite a bit of time to decompress."
