Motorcyclist Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Branford Accident: Police

Police say the the motorcyclist collided with a vehicle on Sunday afternoon. BREAKING

BRANFORD, CT — A West Haven man suffered life threatening injuries when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle driven by a Branford man, 79, police said.

Branford Police spokesman Capt. Geoffrey Morgan said a motorcyclist was severely injured in the accident, which occurred around 4:30 p.m. Sunday as he was traveling on East Main Street at the intersection of Mill Plain Road.

Members of Branford Police and Fire Departments responded to the crash which caused temporary road closures while members of the South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit investigated the incident, Morgan said in a news release.

Branford Patrol Officer Corrianne Dione, who is investigating the crash, said that Christopher Scranton, 52, of Martin Street, West Haven, was traveling westbound on his Harley Davidson motorcycle when a vehicle traveling eastbound, being operated by Ellsworth Mcguigan, 79, of Riverside Drive, Branford attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Mill Plain Road, colliding with Scranton, police said.

Scranton, who suffered life threatening injuries, was treated by Fire Department Paramedics and was immediately transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for further treatment. Mcguigan was uninjured, police said.

The crash remains under investigation and no arrests have been made.
