16 People, 2 Cats Displaced After 3-Alarm Fire In Bridgeport: UPDATE

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A total of 16 people — 14 adults and two children — and two cats were displaced by a three-alarm fire that engulfed two buildings in Bridgeport Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.

One person was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported.

The fire was called in at about 12:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of East Main Street near the intersection at Boston Avenue, according to authorities.

"Fire units arrived to find 2 structures well involved," wrote Deputy Fire Chief Mark J. Cody in a statement. "An aggressive fire attack commenced requiring multiple alarms to bring the fire under control. 1 occupant was transported by AMR to a local hospital post fire for evaluation. The American Red Cross is relocating 14 adults, 2 children, and 2 pets. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Bridgeport Fire Marshal’s Office."
