Bridgeport Man, Accused Of Violent Assaults, Arrested In Trumbull After Chase: Police

The pursuit of the suspect led to a temporary shelter in place directive by Trumbull police.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 24-year-old Bridgeport man, wanted in connection with "numerous recent domestic violence assaults," was arrested Thursday following a chase into Trumbull that led to a temporary shelter in place directive.

Angel Montanez was pursued by police from Bridgeport into Trumbull, after officers spotted him and knew there was an active felony warrant for his arrest.

Montanez was seen driving north on the 25/8 Connector just before noon, and abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot.

Trumbull police put out the shelter in place directive for residents in the Brittany Avenue area, and assisted Bridgeport police on his capture.

Montanez was arrested on the following charges:

  • Strangulation in the Second Degree
  • Unlawful Restraint in the Second Degree
  • Threatening in the Second Degree
  • Stalking
  • Risk of Injury to a Minor (two counts)
  • Robbery in the Third Degree
  • Assault in the Third Degree (4 counts)
  • Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree
  • Breach of Peace (3 counts)
  • Violation of a Protective Order (2 counts)
  • Violation of a Restraining Order (3 counts)

"The charges involve multiple victims on April 19th, 20th, and 22nd," said Bridgeport Police Det. Jeffrey A. Holtz in a statement.

Montanez is additionally facing charges of Engaging Police in Pursuit and Interfering with an Officer.

The capture was handled by the Bridgeport Police Patrol Division and the Detective Bureau, with the assistance from the Trumbull Police, the Connecticut State Police, and the Monroe Police.

Montanez is being held in lieu of bail of $800,000, and is scheduled to be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Friday.
