Father & 14-Year-Old Son Arrested In Connection With Double Shooting In Bridgeport: Police

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Bridgeport police arrested a 14-year-old boy and his 46-year-old father in connection with a double shooting Thursday near Laurel Avenue and Grove Street.

Police said both were taken into custody several hours after the shooting at a motel in the city's North End by the Detective Bureau's Shooting Task Force, which investigates nonfatal shootings.

The 14-year-old was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, first-degree reckless endangerment and unlawful discharge of a firearm. Police said he was processed at police headquarters and transported to juvenile detention.

His father, Damien Mullins, of Bridgeport, was charged with tampering with evidence. Police said his bond was set at $25,000.

Police said officers responded around 4 p.m. Thursday after receiving a ShotSpotter alert indicating multiple rounds had been fired near Laural Avenue and Grove Street. The emergency dispatch center also received 911 calls reporting two people had been shot. ShotSpotter is a gunshot detection system that alerts police when shots are fired in parts of Bridgeport.

Officers found an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, both from Stratford, with non-life-threatening injuries to their lower extremities. Both were taken to a hospital by ambulance.

"Detectives believe the shootings were not random," Bridgeport Police Det. Jeffrey Holtz wrote in a statement. "The incidents remain under investigation. There may be additional arrests made and additional charges filed."
