Mosquitoes that Could Carry Zika Virus Found in Bridgeport and Stratford: Gov. Malloy

However, there other viruses that pose a greater threat to CT residents, according to the governor.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Though he was quick to say that the insects discovered did not carry the Zika virus, Gov. Dannel Malloy said Thursday that African Tiger mosquitoes have been found in Bridgeport and Stratford.

The insects are capable of carrying the Zika virus, but the West Nile virus, also carried by mosquitoes, poses a greater threat to Connecticut residents than Zika, reports the Connecticut Post.

Malloy and other state officials made the announcement during a press conference in New Haven at the state Agricultural Experiment Station, and warned residents to remove standing water areas on their properties where mosquitoes can breed.
