NYC Doorman - A Bridgeport Resident - Dies While Shoveling Snow

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A doorman of an Upper East Side building died Thursday after slipping through a lobby window while shoveling snow, city officials said during a press conference.

The doorman was later identified as 59-year-old Miguel Gonzalez of Bridgeport, police said.

Gonzalez was mourned by the president of property services union 32BJ SEIU, of which Gonzalez was a member.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of doorman and 32BJ member Miguel Gonzalez, who passed away this morning while shoveling snow at the building where he worked for many years," 32BJ President Hector Figueroa said in a statement.

Gonzalez was shoveling in front of 333 E. 93rd St., between First and Second avenues, around 9:30 a.m., NYPD Chief of Patrol Terence Monahan said in a press conference.

"He's shoveling the snow, he slips and falls through the glass window, and he expired," Monahan said.
Gonzalez was still alive when he was transported to Metropolitan Hospital, an FDNY spokesman told Patch.

"Very very sad situation, and we don't obviously have all the details but it's another reminder people be very careful while shoveling," Mayor Bill de Blasio said during a press conference.
