Brookfield BOE and Fired Superintendent Settle Out of Court

The settlement came just one day before the case was seto to go to jury selection.

BROOKFIELD, CT — The Board of Education has settled its case with former Brookfield schools superintendent Anthony Bivona, the News Times is reporting. The settlement agreement, which is currently being kept confidential, came just one day before the case was set to go to jury selection.

The BOE fired Bivona in October 2014, alleging that he did not properly oversee the district's finances. Bivona's defense was based upon blaming the former business manager, Art Colley, for "improper accounting and financial management practices he did not disclose." Colley was one of two staff members accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the schools, and the budget was reportedly overspent by more than $1 million, while Bivona was superintendent.

Bivona was placed on administrative leave in May 2014 and fired in October of that year. He sued in August 2015.
