Brookfield landscaper Jeff Moxham, 48, became a paraplegic on January 13 when an industrial garage door broke and fell on top of him, pinning him underneath and damaging his spinal cord.
Handy Dandy Handyman, a Brookfield charity founded by Peter Brady, is organizing a group of volunteers to retrofit his Brookfield home to make it handicap accessible. Along with an architect and several local contractors, they hope plans and renovations will be completed by mid-March, Brady said.
Moxham has been in a rehabilitation center in Wallingford since the accident and will rent an apartment in the Brookfield area until their home is handicapped accessible.
Brady is asking for donations to cover the cost of the building materials. Nine licensed contractors are donating their labor. The group is 35 percent short of their fundraising goal.
