The plan calls for a nearly 139,000-square-foot school to be built on the existing Huckleberry Hill campus.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Voters passed a referendum to build a new Huckleberry Hill Elementary School Tuesday night., the News-Times has reported.

The plan calls for a nearly 139,000-square-foot school to be built on the existing Huckleberry Hill campus. Total out-of-pocket for Brookfield will be $63.3 million, assuming the town receives the state grant for which it plans to apply. The deadline for the application is June 30.

The school will serve prekindergarten through fifth grade, bringing fifth-graders down from the middle school while combining Huckleberry Hill and Center elementary schools. Construction is expected to commence in the fall of 2020, with occupation scheduled for the fall of 2022.
