Why is a Helicopter Landing on the Baseball Field?

Answering a question from our Facebook page.

A reader on inquired on our Facebook page about a helicopter landing and taking off from the baseball field off Grays Bridge Road on Sunday morning.

The helicopter is being used to support Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) crews as they replace shield wire on top of station towers along the transmission line, according to Brookfield police Maj. James Purcell.

From August to October, crews will be working on the line between the CL&P substation on Walnut Hill Road in Bethel and one on Long Mountain Road in New Milford, which runs through Brookfield. According to a flyer sent out by CL&P, the work should not interrupt any electrical service to the area.
