Canton Police Investigate Home Invasion ... By Bears: Reports

Canton police said a mother bear and her three babies may have let themselves inside a local house Tuesday afternoon.

CANTON, CT — The year of the bears continued in central Connecticut Tuesday afternoon, with Canton police telling local television stations a bear and three cubs actually broke into a home there.

According to WFSB Channel 3, police said the bear break-in was in the northern part of town, though the actual street was not revealed by authorities.

Police said the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is investigating, according to WFSB Channel 3. The bear was tranquilized and will be released, officials said.

WVIT Channel 30 said when officers arrived, the mother bear and one of the babies was inside the house. It was not known if anybody was inside the home at the time of the break-in, WVIT reports.

The station said that the mother bear had no prior issues with humans.

In May, a bear broke into a home in Avon and helped itself to some food. And earlier in June, a bear was euthanized after breaking into a home in Bloomfield.

And in Avon, a bear in May broke into "Taste by Spellbound," a cake, cupcake and cookie bakery/coffee shop. The owners told Patch at the time that they saw the bear with a "faceful of coconut frosting." The bear, reportedly, charged the employee, but was unsuccessful in reaching her as the worker was able to find a safe spot inside and slam the door. No one was injured.
