Health & Fitness

Reach out to a Senior or disabled citizen, neighbor, friend or relative; ask a simple question.

Earlier this week as the snow swirled, accumulating centimeter by centimeter, I was remembering my aging grandparents.  A time when families celebrated together for traditional festivities, friends rejoiced, and Christmas cards were received as a reminder that you are in people’s hearts.  Christmas cards are outdated, friends pass away, and families move.  Senior citizens have to face this reality every day.

The Department of Senior Services (who also provides for the disabled) provides many beneficial programs and activities that assist with Senior citizen’s physical and emotional needs For a detailed list of programs and an up to date report from the Town of Canton Department of Senior Services, check out the SCRIBE:  (http://www.townofcantonct.org/filestorage/154/130/SCRIBE%2C_DEC_2013-MAR_2014_FINAL.pdf)  The Department of Senior Services is a wealth of information, and a source for local, state, and federal programs whose services are priceless.

There are still Senior and disabled citizens in Canton that do not benefit from the Department of Senior Services and its services.  These residents may or may not know of the programs, due to lack of outside sources such as internet, newspaper, or just use to being independent.
