Cheshire Board of Education Elects New Officers

One of the board's first tasks will be finding a permanent replacement for outgoing Superintendent of Schools Greg Florio.

The Cheshire Board of Education elected its new officers and unanimously approved Democrat Cathy Hellreich as chairwoman on Thursday night, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports Democrat Marlena Soble was elected vice chairwoman and Republican Anthony Peruigini was tabbed as the board’s secretary.

Thursday night also represented the final board meeting for Superintendent of Schools Dr. Greg Florio, who will leave the district on Jan. 4 to become the executive director of the Capitol Region Education Council.

Hellreich told the Record-Journal the board plans to meet on Monday to discuss the process of finding Florio’s successor.

Assistant Superintendent of Schools Scott Detrick has been appointed interim superintendent.
