Cheshire Residents Receive Academic Achievement Awards at SCSU

Cheshire’s Eric Rothbart and Kelly Gunneson were among the 30 students from Southern Connecticut State University to be honored by the Division II Athletic Directors Association with Academic Achievement Awards.

Thirty student-athletes from Southern Connecticut State University have been named as 2013-14 recipients of the Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award. The Academic Achievement Awards are a program that recognizes the academic achievements of student-athletes at the Division II level.

In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the Division II institution must be a current dues paying member of the Division II ADA. The student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.

In total, 155 institutions sent in nominees, accounting for a record 6,949 student-athletes being recognized for the 2013-14 Academic Achievement Awards. The Northeast-10 Conference had a total of 447 student-athletes recognized from 10 of its institutions, which was tied for second-most among all Division II Conferences.
