Cheshire Soccer Teams Advance To State Championships

The Cheshire High School boys and girls soccer teams are both heading to the state finals this weekend.

CHESHIRE, CT — The Cheshire High School boys and girls soccer teams are both heading to the state finals this weekend.

The top-seeded boys team defeated No. 4 Guilford 3-2 in the CIAC Class L semifinals on Tuesday night in Milford.

The top-seeded girls team defeated No. 4 Ridgefield 2-1 in the CIAC Class LL semifinals on Wednesday night in Southbury.

It’s the first time in the Southern Connecticut Conference’s 29-year history that a member school has both its boys and girls soccer teams making the state finals, according to SCC Commissioner Al Carbone.

Samir Dishnica scored the go-ahead goal to lift the boys team over Guilford and into the championship game, according to GameTimeCT.com. The Rams will play No. 2 Xavier on either Saturday or Sunday in Hartford.

Gabby Tirado scored both of Cheshire’s goals in the girls team’s win over Ridgefield to send the Rams to their first CIAC championship game since 2008, according to GameTimeCT. Cheshire will play No. 3 Staples on either Saturday or Sunday in Hartford.
