Creepy Clown Rumors Prompt Police Presence at Cheshire Schools

Cheshire Police say they are investigating "creepy clown" social media threats and to expect an increased police presence at schools.

CHESHIRE, CT — Add Cheshire to list of towns investigating “creepy” clown threats that have been popping up on social media throughout the state. Cheshire Police said in a Tuesday night post on Facebook that they are investigating social media threats of the “creepy clown at schools” and to expect an increased police presence at schools.

North Haven had an increased police presence at all of its public schools on Tuesday, similar to the response in Naugatuck.

Naugatuck Police announced late Tuesday that they arrested two teens in connection to the “clown” social media postings that were made on Monday.

Naugatuck Police investigated several social media posts that vaguely mentioned clowns and local schools. Security and a police presence was added at schools Tuesday.

A rumor spread that Quinnipiac University in Hamden was on lockdown Monday night, but the school tweeted that everything was running normally. Public safety received several reports about a clown but found nothing upon investigation, according to the Hartford Courant.
