Police Warn Of Easy Vehicle Thefts In Hilarious Video: WATCH
New Britain Police have taken a unique approach to remind residents on how to avoid becoming a victim of vehicle thefts and burglaries.

NEW BRITAIN, CT — In the ongoing battle to curb vehicle thefts and burglaries, New Britain Police have taken a unique approach to reminding residents on how to avoid becoming a victim in these crimes. The department released a Public Service Announcement video on Facebook starring Officer Barbagiovanni that shows how easy it can be for thieves to steal a car… and it’s a classic.
In the video, titled “A Wintertime Message From Your Friends At New Britain Police Department,” Officer Barbagiovanni gets out of his police vehicle, which is running, in an empty parking lot. He walks toward the camera to make a statement.
“Every year around this time, we start to see an increase in stolen motor vehicles from vehicles that were running or thefts from vehicles where the doors were left unlocked,” he says… as two people who were walking by are seen entering the vehicle and driving away. “I get it. You don’t want to get into a cold car. But leaving your doors unlocked, or standing more than a few feet from a vehicle that is running is an invitation for thieves.”

Barbagiovanni then turns around and sees his police vehicle driving away with sirens blaring.
“Turn the camera off,” Barbagiovanni says. “Can you call the cops, please? Oh no.”
