Coyote or Large Dog Attacks Man in Clinton, Police Say
The man was bit in the face and is undergoing treatment for Rabies as a precaution, police said.
A man was walking on Liberty Street in Clinton at around 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, when he was attacked by a large dog or coyote. The attack was unprovoked, Sgt. Jeremiah Dunn said via email.
The man told police he was walking alone with a flashlight, when the animal came from the woods and jumped at him, bit him in the face and then ran off.

He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment of his injuries and released. As a precaution, the man is being treated for rabies, Dunn said.
According to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Wildlife Division, unprovoked attacks by coyote’s are rare, Dunn said.

DEEP personnel, along with Clinton Animal Control, surveyed the area but did not locate the coyote or dog.
“Other residents did relate hearing/seeing coyotes in the area over the past few weeks,” Dunn said. “Residents who encounter wild life are reminded to keep their distance and report unusual encounters to their local Animal Control Officers.”
