‘Highly Intoxicated’ Man Faces Additional Charges After Burglary Spree: Clinton Police
Police say the man dropped a Taser at the site of a previously unreported burglary prior to his arrest early Sunday morning.

CLINTON, CT — The “highly intoxicated” man who was arrested for burglarizing two Clinton homes early Sunday morning faces additional charges after police received more information connecting him to other burglaries in town.
Police said that after arresting Samuel Schultz, 23, of Clinton, early Sunday morning they received several new calls later in the day reporting more homes or vehicles that were entered by Schultz that had previously been unknown or unreported prior to his arrest.
It was also learned that during Schultz’s burglary spree, he was in possession of an electronic defense weapon, a “stun gun,” at the time of the spree but he had inadvertently dropped the device at the scene of a different then unreported burglary, prior to being apprehended, police said.

Clinton Police recovered that electronic device later on in the day on Sunday at the scene of the subsequent burglary.
It all started at about 12:38 a.m. on Jan. 15 when Clinton Police received a 911 call from a resident of Brush Hill Road, where the caller reported she had just been awoken by an unknown male intruder inside of her home.

The caller confronted the male and he fled the home prior to police arriving on scene, according to police.
“Police conducted a systematic canvass of the area with the assistance of the Guilford Police K9 unit, and tracked the suspect from the area of the initial burglary on Brush Hill Road, to an adjacent neighborhood located on Carriage Drive,” Sgt. Jeremiah Dunn said in a press release.
At approximately 1:45 a.m. Clinton Police received a second 911 call from a resident of Carriage Drive.
The caller told police that there was someone currently inside his home, in his basement/garage.
Officers that were already in the area arrived within seconds of the 911 call and located the suspect as he was exiting the home via a broken garage door window, according to Dunn.
“The individual had in his possession a large capacity carry bag which contained several containers/bottles of alcohol that he was attempting to steal from this residence,” Dunn said. “Officers confronted the suspect and took him into custody without incident.”
Schultz, of Brush Hill Road in Clinton, was identified as the suspect and arrested.
Dunn said that Schultz was determined to be highly intoxicated at the time.
As a result of the new charges, Schultz is now accused of three counts of first-degree burglary, three counts of third-degree burglary, one count of criminal possession of an electronic defense weapon, and multiple counts of third-degree criminal mischief as well as several counts of sixth-degree larceny.
Schultz’s bond was increased to $46,000 and he is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday morning.
