2 Danbury Kitchens Failed Health Inspection in August

It's not the first time on the list for either establishment.

DANBURY, CT — Two food service establishments in Danbury failed health inspections in August, according to the city's Department of Health and Human Services.

Mezon Tapas Bar & Restaurant on Mill Plain Road also scored an automatic failure for food temperature violations when it was inspected on Aug. 14, and likewise this was not its first write-up. It failed inspection in June for the same reason, and 14 more infractions.

Health inspectors rate commercial kitchens monthly on a 100-point scale in areas such as the availability of suitable hand cleaners and dry towels, whether potentially hazardous food is properly thawed, whether the mats are clean and in good repair, and dozens more. A restaurant must score 80 points or better to pass. Some violations, such as those surrounding the temperature at which food is stored, can result in automatic failures.

Restaurants that fail inspection are typically given 24 hours to remedy their problems and must pay a $250 fine. All Danbury restaurants that failed in April have since passed re-inspection and are back in business.
