Armed Robbery, Kidnapping In Danbury Grocery Store Parking Lot: Police

A man forced a family at gunpoint to drive to a bank and withdraw cash for him, according to police.

DANBURY, CT — Police are investigating an armed robbery and kidnapping they say occurred in a grocery store shopping center.

On Sunday evening, at about 5:30 p.m., members of the Danbury Police Department were dispatched to a Newtown Road location and met with the victims.

The family reported a Black man with a muscular build between the age of 30 and 40 approached their vehicle with a handgun in the Stop and Shop parking lot. They told police that the suspect ordered them to unlock the car, before getting into the rear driver's side seat. The victim was then ordered to drive to the Bank of America on Main Street and withdraw $500, and did so, police said.

The alleged robber then demanded the victim drive back to Newtown Road. Before leaving the scene, the suspect also stole one victim's iPhone, according to police.
