Aspetuck Valley Rugby Club Wins Connecticut Division 2 State Championship

Sports Rugby High School Championship Danbury

Local High School Rugby club, Aspectuck Valley Rugby, topped off an undefeated regular league season record with a commanding 69-7 win over West Hartford in the Division 2 State Championship game played Saturday May 27th at Fairfield High School.

Aspetuck broke out with dominant play early in the first half. Aspetuck scored quickly on several long downfield runs made by Jacob Robb (Wilton) and Patrick Stack (Weston). West Hartford put up a solid effort to push back in the first half, but the speed of Aspetuck's Backs and their Forwards' dominance at the breakdown proved too much with additional tries in the first half from Jack Preston (Redding), Luke Davies (Weston), Josh Lisi (Stratford), Alex Stillman (Redding) and again by Jacob Robb. Jack Preston kicked the majority of the conversions to make it 50-0 by the half.

In the second half Aspetuck's dominance continued with tries coming from Gunnar Desantis (Redding) Ray Weiner (Shelton) and Armundo Martinez (Shelton). West Hartford's threatened the line several times and was ultimately successful in scoring in the dying minutes to make the final score 69-7.
