Bethel School Board Gives Thumbs Up to 'Tight, Well-Crafted' Budget: Report

Despite submitting the budget, school officials are still concerned with potential state cuts in local school aid.

BETHEL, CT — The Bethel school board has approved a $44.3 million budget proposal for the upcoming 2017-2018 fiscal year which will now be submitted to the Board of Selectmen, reports the News Times.

The proposal reflects a 1.68 percent increase from the current budget, regarded by Board Chairman Larry Craybas as "tight" and "well-crafted." The budget was not changed from Superintendent Christine Carver's original proposal, which has not happened in the first three years of her going through the budget process.

However, potential cuts of local school aid still loom in Hartford. Bethel would stand to lose $3.8 million in Education Cost Sharing funds. The potential cuts were not reflected in the budget proposal.
