Danbury City Council Approves School Budget
The funding is a $4 million increase over the current school budget.

DANBURY, CT — The City Council approved Mayor Mark Boughton's proposed $132.7 million last night by a vote of 13-7.
The funding is a $4 million increase over the current school budget, but falls short of the additional $7 million that educators were looking for. In an often contentious run-up to the vote, Danbury teachers had regularly attended public forums and council meetings to voice their concern over the cuts made by the mayor's office to the budget the School Board originally proposed.
The school allotment is the biggest slice in the 2018-19 budgetary pie of $257 million. A planned wastewater treatment plant will be funded by 2.75 percent and 2.95 percent rate hikes for water and sewer, respectively. An additional $9.8 million has been allocated for capital projects.
