Connecticut Extends State Tax Filing Deadline

The state Department of Revenue Services made the move to align with the change made this year by the Feds.

DANBURY, CT — Residents of Connecticut will have a little longer to file their state taxes, as well as their federal taxes, this year.

The state Department of Revenue Services is extending the filing and payment deadline for Connecticut individual income tax returns to May 17, 2021.

This extension from the state aligns with the U.S. Department of the Treasury's announcement Wednesday affording residents until that same date to file.

"Taxpayers do an excellent job of filing their Connecticut income tax returns accurately and on time. To further assist and support them, Connecticut will align with the extended federal deadline," DRS Commissioner Mark Boughton said Thursday.

Since Connecticut's individual income tax return begins with federal adjusted gross income, it is often beneficial to complete one's federal return first, according to Boughton.
