Danbury Driver Offered Fake Names: New York State Police

She ended up with three charges including drunk driving.

SOUTHEAST, NY — A Danbury woman who police say gave them several different names and birth dates after a traffic stop is due in Southeast Town Court April 10.

New York State police charged Tiela C. Taft, 34, with False Personation, a class B misdemeanor, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation.

At 2:44 a.m., March 18, troopers conducted a traffic stop of a 2013 Honda Accord for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law on State Route 6 in Southeast.

Police allege they could smell strong odors both of alcohol and marijuana when interviewing Taft, the driver. They said when asked to identify herself she gave several names and birth dates despite being warned of the consequences.

Further investigation found approximately 3.92 grams of marijuana, and Taft’s blood alcohol content in excess of 0.18 percent, police allege.

Taft was arraigned before the Town of Southeast Court and sent to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond.
