Danbury Ecuadoran National Guilty of Illegally Re-Entering U.S.

Convicted of illegal sexual contact with a minor in 2011 and deported, he failed to register as a sex offender and re-entered the country.

DANBURY, CT -- An Ecuadoran national who was living in Danbury and had illegally re-entered the U.S. after failing to register as a sex offender, is facing up to 10 years in prison.

Enrique Fajardo Marin, 40, pleaded guilty on Tuesday before U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport to one count of illegally reentering the U.S.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Marin had been convicted in Danbury Superior Court of illegal sexual contact with a minor and risk of injury in December 2011. He was sentenced to 18 years in jail, execution suspended after 10 years, with 20 years of probation. Marin was also was required to register as a sex offender for a period of 10 years.

Marin was released from state custody in February 2016, and deported to Ecuador.

On June 28, 2017, Marin was arrested in Worcester, Massachusetts. The investigation revealed that he illegally reentered the U.S. and had been residing in Danbury since approximately December 2016. He also had failed to register as a sex offender in Connecticut.

Marin is scheduled to be sentenced on September 12, at which time he will face a maximum term of 10 years.
