Danbury FD Recalls Fatal Fire 34 Years Ago
The department lost two members 34 years ago Friday.
DANBURY, CT — The Danbury Fire Department recalled a fatal fire that claimed the lives of two members 34 years ago Friday.
A fire at the Russo Fur Company Warehouse on Osborne Street killed Lt. Butch Melody, 40, and Firefighter Joe Halas, 33.
The two were searching the building and working to extinguish the fire when the floor collapsed, according to a post on the Danbury Fire Department Facebook page. Many other firefighters were injured.
