Danbury Firefighters Tackle 'Very Challenging' 2-Alarm Blaze

The Danbury Fire Department responded to a 2-alarm house fire on Walnut Trail early Saturday morning.

DANBURY, CT — The Danbury Fire Department battled a "very challenging" blaze at a residence early Saturday morning.

Firefighters were notified shortly after 2 a.m. by a caller reporting hearing multiple explosions from a structure fire at a home along Walnut Trail.

First responders encountered "heavy fire conditions" on two floors of the residence, quickly spreading throughout the building, according to DFD Capt. Kevin Lunnie. A second alarm brought additional resources to the scene.

Firefighters mounted an "aggressive attack" against "very challenging conditions," Lunnie said, while other emergency workers confirmed all residents were accounted for and out of the building.

One resident was checked by firefighters for minor injuries, and was ultimately transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

Due to the extent of fire, the fire department remained on scene for nearly 4 hours performing overhaul to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

The city’s Office of Emergency Management responded to coordinate relief efforts for the residents and was assisted by the Red Cross.

There were no firefighters injured, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Danbury Fire Marshal's office.
