Danbury Food Pantry Gets $100K In State Grants To Provide Local Food

The Danbury food pantry is among organizations receiving funding to purchase Connecticut-grown food for residents in need.

DANBURY, CT — A Danbury food pantry is set to receive $100,000 in state funding as part of a broader initiative to expand access to locally grown food.

Daily Bread Food Pantry is among 12 organizations selected for grants through the Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s Local Food Purchase Assistance Grant Program, according to state officials.

The program will distribute approximately $1.55 million statewide to support food pantries and nonprofits that purchase Connecticut-grown food and distribute it to residents facing food insecurity.

Officials said the funding is expected to benefit about 60,000 residents across the state.

“Every family should be able to access nutritious, locally grown food, and this program aims to eliminate barriers to healthy eating while also supporting Connecticut farmers and their operations,” Gov. Ned Lamont said.

In Danbury, Daily Bread Food Pantry will use the funding to purchase locally grown food for its grocery-style pantry, which serves more than 1,000 families each week.
