Danbury Lawyer Files Complaint Against Himself

His own was the first complaint he had ever received in 40 years of practice...

DANBURY, CT -- It was the first time anyone ever filed a complaint against Danbury attorney Joseph Saffi in more than 40 years of practice.

The complaint came from himself.

Saffi filed with the state grievance board this week, stating he was ready to give up his law practice after admitting to changing the date on a fax in order to protect his clients, the News Times is reporting.

Saffi was issued a summons last year for failing to abide by a purchase agreement for a property. Saffi realized that he hadn’t faxed the cancellation document to the other attorney. To protect his client, Saffi told authorities he changed the date on the fax machine and sent out the notice.

Within 30 minutes of that act, however, Saffi notified other attorneys involved in the matter and admitted his indiscretion. He then filed a grievance against himself.

Rather than forfeiting his license to practice law in Connecticut, court officials proposed an agreement Thursday in Superior Court that calls for Saffi to be suspended for several months later this year.
