Danbury Mayoral Candidate Alves Announces Q1 Fundraising

DANBURY, CT — Candidate for mayor Roberto Alves has announced his first-quarter fundraising total.

The Democrat has raised more than $75,000 so far, his campaign revealed on Monday.

"From the first day our campaign started, we knew we had to work hard, but the outpouring of support from our community has been overwhelming,” Alves said in a statement.

Alves said the sum was raised from more than 275 contributors without the benefit of any live events, "out of an abundance of caution."

The city councilman is seeking his party's nomination over businessman Sedeaka Lawrence. Republican and current Mayor Joe Cavo, the former City Council president who took the job when Mark Boughton was tapped to be commissioner of the state Department of Revenue Services, has not announced if he will be seeking election.
