Danbury Mental Health Facility to Close Under Malloy Budget: Report

The facility helps hundreds from the area deal with mental health and addiction afflictions.

DANBURY, CT — Gov. Dannel Malloy's proposed budgets means cuts and closures across the board if approved, and the budget also would close a mental health facility in Danbury, reports the News Times.

The governor's budget plan would privatize the Danbury branch of the Western Connecticut Mental Health Network , and its 39 employees would be transferred to other offices. The report indicated that the greater Danbury area's most vulnerable population would be forced to get services from charities and private-sector providers.

The office helps 300 people from the area manage mental health and addictions. The proposal has been met with criticism from both mental health officials and state lawmakers.
