Danbury Names New Head Of Emergency Management

Matt Cassavechia, a 30-year medical services professional, was sworn into his new position on Wednesday.

DANBURY, CT — A 30-year medical services professional has been named the city's new emergency management director.

Matt Cassavechia was sworn into his new position on Wednesday. He holds a master's degree in homeland security, according to Mayor Mark Boughton, who announced the move in a livestreamed news conference later that day.

Supervision of the Office of Emergency Management had fallen to former Fire Chief T.J. Wiedl in March, taking over from the retiring Paul Estephan.

Cassavechia will continue to serve as director of emergency medical services for Nuvance Health, parent company of Danbury Hospital, and will provide his services to the city on a contractual basis.
