Danbury Police Mourn Death Of 12-Year Veteran

The Danbury Police Department is mourning the "unexpected passing​" of Officer Andrew Katkocin, a 12-year veteran of the DPD.

DANBURY, CT — A Danbury police officer died unexpectedly Sunday.

Police mourned the "unexpected passing" of Officer Andrew Katkocin, a 12-year veteran of the DPD, on the department's Facebook page.

"Our deepest sympathy is with Andrew's family and loved ones. His passing is a stunning blow to his brother and sister officers at the Danbury Police Department, who will miss him deeply. As we are all in mourning, please keep us in your thoughts and prayers," Lt. Mark Williams posted.

Katkocin was "well-liked and respected by his peers and supervisors alike.," according to Williams.

Katkocin's death comes just a week after that of DPD Sgt. David Coomey, 45, a 20-year veteran who had been battling cancer.

The DPD is receiving assistance from other police agencies as officers mourn, Williams said.

"To make it possible for our personnel to attend services for both officers, you may encounter members of area police departments patrolling within Danbury and responding to your requests for assistance. The augmented service is temporary and will end when services are complete,” Williams said. “We are thankful for all the support these agencies are providing and appreciate their willingness to assist our agency and community."
