Danbury Seniors SAVE on taxes by volunteering at Housatonic Habitat for Humanity

Are you a senior citizen in Danbury looking to SAVE money on your property tax? The SAVE (Seniors Add Valuable Experience) program connects Danbury senior homeowners with volunteer service in Danbury City Departments and Non-Profit Agencies. The SAVE Program is administered for the City of Danbury by United Way of Western Connecticut and senior program participants who qualify receive up to $700 in property tax credits on completion of 100 hours of service. Jeff Gorton joined Housatonic Habitat for Humanity as a volunteer early in 2017 under the SAVE Program. He will also participate in the 2017-2018 SAVE Program, which just began this month. Jeff, a Danbury resident, helps to maintain and support Habitat’s 10,000 square foot thrift warehouse and keep it in tip-top shape. He enjoys working with the staff and volunteers at Housatonic Habitat for Humanity, stating “it is a fantastic group of people who collaborate well”. Jeff began his career as an auto mechanic and then joined the U.S. Army as a combat engineer who was in Berlin during the historic building of the Wall in 1961. Following his return to the U.S., Jeff worked as a mechanic and in real estate, before spending the majority of his career as a machinist and toolmaker. He spent 30 years in metal manufacturing before moving on to work with a builder as a subcontractor for 10 years. Jeff brings all of his experience and knowledge as a volunteer for Housatonic Habitat for Humanity.
