Danbury Tax Freeze for Elderly Extended
The property taxes for the elderly and disabled in Danbury will remain at 2011 levels for at least another year.

DANBURY, CT — The property tax freeze for elderly and disabled residents in Danbury will stay frozen for one more year, City officials determined in a meeting earlier this week.
The freeze has been in place since 2012. Danbury homeowners aged 65 and older, or those who receive Social Security benefits for total disability, had their property frozen taxes at that time. Viewed as a hedge against rising tax bills borne of the 2012 property revaluation, 435 homeowners now receive a combined $290,000 in relief with an average credit of $668 on their annual bills.
With home values increasing once more, officials were worried about the effect a sudden tax spike would have on local pensioners.
