Ecuadoran National Living In Danbury Charged With Illegal Reentry

An Ecuadoran national living in Danbury has been charged with illegally reentering the country. He is also facing other charges.

DANBURY, CT — An Ecuadoran national residing in Danbury has been indicted on charges that he illegally reentered the United States, according to Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Luis Salto Saico, 47, has pleaded not guilty to one count of illegally reentering the U.S. after being deported.

Saico was arrested in 2006 in Columbus, OH, for aggravated vehicular assault, according to prosecutors. He pleaded guilty in Ohio state court to that charge and to one count of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

After serving about eight months in prison, he was removed to Ecuador in July 2008.

In July 2022, ICE learned that Saico was living in Danbury after he was arrested by Danbury police and charged with third-degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct, according to prosecutors.

If convicted of illegal reentry, Saico faces a maximum prison term of 10 years.
