CONNECTICUT — Friendly's will be closing three more locations in Connecticut, company officials announced Monday. The three Connecticut locations that will close once their leases are up include the Danbury location at 81 Newtown Road, Southbury location at 519 Heritage Road and the Waterbury location at 544 Reidville Drive.

They are part of a mass shuttering that will claim 23 locations throughout the Northeast. The Wilbraham, MA corporation, which currently operates 19 ice cream parlors in Connecticut, notified franchisees Monday that it will be closing restaurants where the leases are due for renewal.

Friendly's locations will continue to remain in Avon, Bristol, Cromwell, Enfield, Manchester, Mystic, Naugatuck, Newington, North Haven, Norwich, Plainville, Southington, Vernon, Wethersfield, Willimantic, and Windsor Locks.

"While this was a tough decision, we are confident it will best position the brand for a bright future," Friendly's CEO George Mitchell wrote in the letter. "Especially difficult is the impact these closures will have on the locations' wonderful employees, who we are working to support with opportunities in other locations or severance payments and other assistance"

The national chain previously filed for bankruptcy in 2011. The Milford, Conn. location abruptly closed in 2018.
